Why We Built StatusQ: Combating Loneliness One Dinner at a Time

community social dining loneliness

The Loneliness Epidemic Is Real

In 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General declared loneliness a public health epidemic. Over half of Americans report feeling lonely, and the problem is especially acute for young adults who’ve moved to new cities for work.

We’ve all been there - you move somewhere new, your social circle shrinks to coworkers, and your evenings become a rotation of Netflix and DoorDash. Dating apps promise connection but deliver anxiety. Meetup groups feel forced. And the bar scene? Not for everyone.

The Wednesday Dinner Experiment

StatusQ started with a simple experiment: what if we took 6 strangers, matched them based on personality, and booked them a table at a great restaurant?

No bios to agonize over. No profiles to judge. No swiping. Just show up, sit down, and be yourself.

How It Works

Every Wednesday, StatusQ hosts dinners across multiple cities. Here’s the experience:

  1. You book a seat - choose your Wednesday, tell us your dietary preferences and budget
  2. We match your group - our personality algorithm (built on real psychology, not horoscopes) finds 5 people you’ll click with
  3. Wednesday morning reveal - you get your restaurant, time, and group details
  4. Show up and connect - conversation starters in the app help break the ice

What Makes StatusQ Different

We’re not a dating app. We’re not a networking platform. We’re a dinner party where you don’t know anyone - and that’s the best part.

Our FLOW personality system uses Big Five psychology to match people who’ll have genuine chemistry at the table. It’s not about finding people who are exactly like you. It’s about creating a mix of personalities that spark great conversation.

Join Us

StatusQ is currently live in New York and Minneapolis, with more cities launching soon. If you’ve been looking for a way to meet interesting people without the pressure of apps or the awkwardness of networking events, give us a Wednesday.

Your table is waiting.
